  • The following should be included in your basic disaster supplies kit:

     

     

    • Supply of nonperishable food and manual can opener.  (min 3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
      • Ready-to-eat canned meats, fruits, vegetables and a can opener
      • Protein or fruit bars
      • Dry cereal or granola
      • Peanut butter
      • Dried fruit
      • Canned juices
      • Non-perishable pasteurized milk
      • High-energy foods
      • Food for infants
      • Comfort/stress foods
    • Supply of water (one gallon of water per person, per day). (3-day supply for evacuation, 2-week supply for home)
    • Portable, battery-powered radio or television, and extra batteries.
    • Flashlight and extra batteries.
    • First aid kit and manual.
    • Sanitation and hygiene items (hand sanitizer, moist towelettes,
    • and toilet paper).
    • Matches in waterproof container.
    • Extra clothing and blankets.
    • Kitchen accessories and cooking utensils.
    • Photocopies of identification and credit cards.
    • Cash and coins.
    • Special needs items such as prescription medications (7-day supply) , eyeglasses, contact lens solution, and hearing aid batteries.
    • Items for infants, such as formula, diapers, bottles, and
    • Tools, pet supplies, a map of the local area, and other items to meet your unique family needs.
    • Generator - can be portable, but you need to measure your power use effectively when select the size and fuel type of the generator
      • A large generator will provide up to 7,500 watts of power to keep items like your refrigerator, laptop, lights, smartphone charger, and home security system plus a well pump or a dishwasher running during a blackout. Recommended for shelter in place situation
      • Solar generators can provide off-grid energy, consistently, over extended periods of time, without requiring anything other than the power of the sun. Solar generators provide a green solution for power generation, that in many cases can be as effective or even more effective than propane or gas powered generators. large models can be very expensive
