I also trimmed the banana trees, as I finished up the yard I put all the clippings around the plants that will be producing fruit next year... I cut back over half of the growth and many small suckers.

I mixed grass clippings with old walmart compost and cow manure as a way to add fresh components to the compost. It also adds air to the roots and allows the roots to freely dig into the bottom without being water logged. So far my plants love it! I have a small fruit tree growing in it as well as some purple basil that has since put on new leaves and doing much better than this pic (which was when I first transplanted it). I have a huge tomato vine planted 100% in grass clippings. Tomatoes are very nutrient hungry plants that seem to find everything they need in just grass clippings. I swept off some spilled black beans next to my porch and now I have black beans crawling up the house. The last picture is of an Idea I will play with. Using old bbq grills as taller planting boxes so I dont have to bend down to harvest and tent to it... I will plant spinach, carrots, and radishes and possibly a few onions in it. Just to see how it goes. less
