Who remembers when I said A.I. is dangerous? Anyone? No? Of course not. This isn't even close to what I mean by dangerous. But don't worry, you'll soon see. Don't let me hear you saying, "But I didn't know, I thought it was some Conspiracy Theory 🐂 💩 again.". 😭 YHBW!
Elon Musk retweeted a video that combines footage from a Kamala Harris campaign video with an AI-generated imitation of her voice, without context that it was not real.
The video gained attention after tech billionaire Elon Musk shared it on his social media platform X on Friday without explicitly noting it was originally released as parody. The fake ad swaps out Harris’ voice-over audio with an AI-generated voice that convincingly impersonates Harris.
While some participants who use X’s “community note” feature to add context to posts have suggested labelling Musk’s post, no such label had been added as of today. Some users online questioned whether his post might violate X’s policies, which say users “may not share synthetic, manipulated, or out-of-context media that may deceive or confuse people and lead to harm.” The policy has an exception for memes and satire as long as they do not cause “significant confusion about the authenticity of the media.”
In response, Gavin Newsom, California’s Democratic governor said he would soon sign a bill banning such media, calling it “illegal”.
Elon Musk responded to Newsom by writing, “I checked with renowned world authority, Professor Suggon Deeznutz, and he said parody is legal in America,” next to a shrugging emoji.
