Last week and this weekend, I binge watched @painkillernetflix and man, this was one of the hardest series to watch!!!

PainKiller tells the story of the Sackler family who created Oxycontin under Purdue Pharma and how it ravaged the communities in the early 2000's. Over 300k folks died as a result of overdosing on this drug in 3 years. We are still dealing with the lasting effects of opioid addiction because of what happened with this particular medication. To see real life folks on this series who lost loved ones ( a lot of them being children) is so friggin SAD. This is why I wrote this book because as the series explained, the epidemic didn't just hurt the individual but the families too!

Dad Got Out of Rehab is a children's book that tells the story of parental abuse of opioids and what it's like as a family to have a loved one going through recovery. I was inspired to write this back in 2021 after watching the movie, A Beautiful Boy starring Steve Carrell. It touched me to watch the unwavering support of a parent fighting for their child who was struggling with addiction. It took me all the way through 😭. And so this story was born as a way to support children who may be going through this as well and need education while going through this challenge. It is written for 9-12 year olds because of the content but can be read to a younger child as long as an adult is available for questions.
