Fiji's 1st settlers arrived from the island of
Melanasia around 3,500 years ago. They
brought with them foods, pigs and a style of pottery known as Lapita Ware.
Lapita Ware is a pottery style that is usually
associated to a wellndeveloped level of skills in navigation, canoe building and
horticulture. Some groups of Fiji people will
later migrate to Tonga and Samoa. And they will bring the Lapita culture with them over there. This is a good example of how the world was populated and how people who today seem disconnected actually came from the same family. That is why when people try to divide Africa into tribes, sub-saharan and north Africans it is not really true. Of course, at some point identities developed independently, but at the origin they shared the exact same culture.
