I found my notes about the 2 recovered Slave Ships I spoke on in TAZ's Zoom Call. They are:
The São José, and (South African) A tragic wreck off the coast of Mozambique
The Clotilda. (Mobile Alabama... found in a place known as AfricaTown) The Clotilda was ordered burned, and sunk because they were illegally slave trading. The ancestors of the slaves carried an oral history that helped to locate the ship.
The Smithsonian is involved in both, but only a few artifacts are on display. The ships have not been raised (they both sunk) yet. The Ballast (some iron bars the weight of a human body) are on display, and being loaned to other museums, and I believe a small fragment of the wood from the South African wreck can be seen in the South African Iziko Museums according to my notes.
From what I wrote it's a slow progress... we don't have the money, and white folks are not in any rush to raise them...
