Acorn woodpeckers store thousands to tens of thousands of acorns in tree “granaries” they create by drilling holes. By dispersing acorns through their storage habits, they contribute to forest regeneration and seed distribution.
Additionally, their granary creation can indirectly benefit some trees by attracting other animals that help with nutrient cycling and pest control. However, not all trees benefit from the woodpeckers’ drilling activity.
