Just as systemic racism in law enforcement adversely affects Black men, resulting in a disproportionately high rate of police brutality and incarceration, similarly, prejudice and implicit bias among doctors and nursing staff can lead to serious disparities in healthcare for Black women. These disparities can manifest as inadequate treatment, misdiagnosis, and generally poorer health outcomes, making this a pressing public health issue just as police violence is a pressing criminal justice issue for Black communities.
