Georgina from Malawi was promised a great opportunity as a domestic worker in Oman. She got her documents together, excited at the prospect of changing her family’s fortunes. On arrival, her nightmare began.

Working for hours on end and undergoing unspeakable sexual and physical abuse, Georgina’s story is one of many African women who risk their lives to work abroad in Gulf Arab state as domestic workers. Some return home with their dignity violated, without compensation for the torturous work they were made to do - let alone for the abuse they underwent. Others have returned in body bags.

It’s a story of women trapped in a cycle of abuse and exploitation at the hands of deceptive agents and employers who have zero regard for these African women’s lives. These horrific stories deserve more airtime.
