The Equatorial Guinean government plans to deport 30,000 immigrants mostly coming from Cameroon and other parts of central Africa.
This is just sad. Xenophobia in Africa is not Xenophobia. It’s Afrophobia. People from Europe, South or North America, for example do not face that same discrimination. Brazilians are not discriminated against in Tunisia, for instance. This is looking too much like Europe and the US, but worse.
Just like in Europe and the US, the hate propaganda is carried out by political figures or leaders. In the case of Equatorial Guinea, that is their President, the longest serving President in the world to be precise, who blames immigrants from neighbouring countries for the fall of the economy. That is audacious. Equatorial Guinea is literally one of the richest countries in Africa. There’s so much oil! But the profits of this wealth always ends up in the pockets of the President’s family. Xenophobia will be the ruin of the African continent. We hate ourselves in our own land, in our own home. We have to wake up and stop blaming other countries (African) for our disgrace. We act as if Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea or South Africa do not have “appointed” leaders, people whose job is to take care of their country! And here we are, still shouting and defending useless. We are so lazy that we choose the easiest victim and remain blind in front of generational theft and trauma.
