Abu Tahsin al-Salhi, also known as "The Sheikh of Snipers," was a renowned Iraqi sniper and member of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) who gained fame for his significant role in the fight against ISIS. Born in Iraq in the 1950s, he served as a sniper in multiple conflicts, including the Iran-Iraq War, the invasion of Kuwait, and later, the Iraq War. However, he is best remembered for his contributions during the fight against ISIS from 2014 onwards.
Al-Salhi claimed to have killed over 300 ISIS fighters. He was known for his exceptional marksmanship, tactical patience, and ability to remain hidden in difficult conditions. His story gained widespread attention in media and online, particularly because he was an older fighter who had honed his skills over decades, making him an icon of resistance in Iraq.
