Put the signs down
They put the signs down
For a reason…
They white folks put the
Signs down cos black people
Keep talkin about how their ancestors
Were lynched….you see, they white folks
Want us to forget…they feel their privilege
To erase our history, but the lands and trees
Have scars…the cool wind didn’t forget…
Raindrops remember the thick blood….
Though they, they white folks want us
To forgive…forgive and not have memories
Of the horrors that black people had to endure….
In their minds
They be like shut niggers
We don’t want you to remember
Move on….
But history repeats itself
Over and over and over…
They white folks
Put the signs down
And shoot up the graves of our ancestors
Cos they don’t want us to talk about
Our history….our black history….
About what they did to us…
Our generations need to know….
They white folks will put all the signs down
Everywhere just like they took books of our past
Off the shelves…you can tell they’re desperate
They can do that, however black people will never
Forget….the unforgettable whiteness, the wickedness
Of colonialism…
They think they slick,
Oh white folks
You can hide history all y’all want
But black people can outthink y’all
Don’t forget now
We ain’t stupid
Y’all want us to be dumb
But we ain’t
Cos we do have books
We do have elders
We do have internet
We can debunk your shit
And no we ain’t over it
Matter of fact
Where’s my check?
Cut my check!
