For Adrian Jelks

You go to jail
For defendin yourself
Cos you’re black?
You stand tall
Stand on business
Like a warrior
Yet this is Georgia
You can’t defend yourself
If necessary….
Cos you’re black…
White supremacy at its finest….

Still white power
Hovers overhead….
Even though its still crumblin
To the floor at the same time….

Things haven’t changed
Things ain’t fair….

I’m sorry that you have to go
Through this…
It’s not enough news to cover it
Where are the real black activists
When you need them the most?

Oh are they buyin new cars?
New flashy suits?
Or do they come just for the tv?

Cos you went to jail
And you have to come out til 70 years
All cos you defend yourself….
Is that a law?

If it’s a white man,
He would have a few years
In jail or walk freely…

You’re a black man
A brotha
Who is angry and tired
Overwhelmed…
Hope you fight
Hope you go into resolve and fight
Cos black people should defend themselves
If necessary….
No matter right or wrong
Self defense isn’t against the law….
It’s a human rights….
And you’re a human,
You’re a person
You do have the right to defend yourself
Goin to prison is never about the teachin you a lesson…
It’s their power that they don’t wanna lose at all….

I hope you get a lawyer
Get an appeal
Make sure your family has your back
And don’t give up, ok?
I know it’s hard….
You don’t deserve jail time….
Especially when you do the right thing…✊🏿💯©️ Kai C. 4-7-25
