If Malcolm X sees this reckonin
He’d be proud
He might celebrate
He’d enjoy it
Our people, our ancestors
He’d watch the world unfold
Smilin
and maybe he’s smilin from afar
All he wanted is that his people to live
And be left alone….
He wanted us to defend ourselves
If necessary
And we did….and we continue to do so….

Cos we’re the reckonin,
We’re the fire
We can be bold and strong
We can unite and be a white folks’ night terror
We ain’t playin anymore….

This is why most public schools
Don’t teach kids about this leader
Cos of their fear, of their guilt….
They think Malcolm X is racist
They don’t like the truth
The fact he called a white man the devil…
Yet white people knew he’s speakin facts
They did a lot of devilish things to their parents
They still do…..

It’s our responsibility
To place his name in our own mouths
For our children to see the definition of
A beautiful black man
Who loves his nation….
Who asked a question to his race
Who told you to hate your nose?
Who told you to hate your black skin?
Who told you to hate yourself?

Hey I wanna know, too…
Who told you?

Today is his birthday
He’d be 100 years old
May rest his soul in power….
