The rock band Pink Floyd got its name from two American blues musicians, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The band's original lead guitarist and singer, Syd Barrett, suggested the combination of their names as a tribute to these artists, and the name "Pink Floyd" was adopted in 1965.
