Black history books and slavery movies
Black history books and slavery movies
I don’t blame black people that they don’t
Wanna watch nor read about our past…
I understand…
I would be pissed off as well…
It does trigger our spirits…
I wouldn’t be mad if they don’t wanna
Read my poems about black people pain…
We don’t wanna be reminded
Yet we’re still livin in a racial society
Being told we ain’t human….
However we’re resilient….
We have lived through our strength
To move on, even if some carry the baggage
Of struggles…
We move forward the best we can
While history keeps repeatin a repeated pattern
Same cycle different generations…
I think it’s part of world genes where pain and
Heartbreak keeps revisitin….
Though black history is important
It’s why we got documentaries, elders and
Black experiences…
Racism is tryin to whiteout the facts
That coddle white folks…
I don’t think it’s fair
Cos they knew what their ancestors did
They benefit from all the chaos and violence
Against us…
They refuse to look at themselves in the mirror
Not even in their eyes…
I always like to say this
They’re allergic to accidentally
They have a bad reaction to give melaninated nation reparations
You know, cut the check…
I encourage my people to read
A book or watch somethin educational
If you want the truth
Cos that way it will help you understand
The real world…
Especially the system,
White supremacy does affect the
Black race tremendously…
It abused our brains
It’s why we keep drownin ourselves in the depths
Of ass backwards confusion….
I’m not sayin nor forcin you
To read one page of soul achin trauma
Or watch somebody who looks like you
Get whoop by a massa…
All I’m sayin
You must have valuable lessons about
Being black
In this world
In this country
Black people has always been a number target
Since day one….
It’s why learnin from the past is needed…
Must have a mental Time Machine to
Go back in those old days
Where your ancestors were doin so great
Before colonizers arrived
And then here they came
With weaponization and mass destruction…
Yes between those events
We’re fightin back as well…
You don’t have to read black history books
Or watch slavery movies…
You do have the right to say I’m over it
And be like I lived through it
Grandparents
Great grandparents
Great great grandparents
Has lived through slavery Jim Crow
I’m sure they saw a black man
Hangin on a tree
While passin by…
And their anger stormed out
Their tears spillin…
Today
Racism is still doin it
Especially lynchings
This time
It covers up as suicide…
If you got babies
Runnin around
Teach them
About black history
Give them easy books
Have them watch kids slavery movies
Before the heavy…
Cos at school
They will indoctrinate with lies
And not seein themselves in an America story
Tell these kids
We built this United States
With our bare hands…
We need critical thinkers
Around here
We need to have intelligence
And backbone…
Common sense…
And proud to be black…
There’s this quote that Angelou Maya
Said,
"I have great respect for the past. If you don't know where you've come from, you don't know where you're going"
You have ways to know your
History
Not just books
Not just in movies
You can google
You can travel
And listen to other
People’s experiences
Especially the elders
They were there
When things happened
And how it changed…
And yes you might be pissed
Off might be sad
Or you don’t have to
Learn at all…
There’s a choice
That you can stay ignorant
Forever til you learn the hard way…
Or not…
