Her vast contributions to Motown as Berry Gordy’s assistant speak for themselves. Her methodology and handling of young talent under her management are questionable or weird. Like her disbandment of the sultry R&B girl group En Vogue over a contractual dispute. It's a dog-eat-dog industry. 3 decades ago it was rumored that Ms. De Passe may have played a role in the fall of the DeBarge family after making several hit singles with MOTOWN’S producers earlier in their career. The music label dropped them, like every division of entertainment; that's life, but for this family it was hell. The industry is cutthroat. Ms. De Passe saw a talented family of eager-eyed young kids. The industry will exploit young talent when approached with the promise of fame and fortune. Did Motown know the family’s history? Later I found out they were being arrested for drug abuse and trafficking to supplement their lives. No matter how you look at it or who you point the finger at, it's conclusive according to the prudent that the beginning of the DeBarge family's erasure started with a psychotic white man who married a Black woman, whom he raped along with their children, knowing this unjust justice system wouldn’t put a white man in prison for marrying a Black woman and bearing all the burden and flack for having an intimate relationship with said woman.
