People like this drove them to exclude anyone from joining their community out of safety, with no exceptions; this created their initiative. It was directly inspired by the constant fear of everyday racism and violence in the United States, which the founders explicitly cited as the motivation to build an autonomous Black space. The general history of Black land loss in the South—driven by violence, discrimination, and legal loopholes like heirs' property issues—was extensive. History provides a broader context based on their and other Black people's conjoined experience. The purchase was successful, and the community is currently growing and developing.

Online Backlash: While local reception has reportedly been welcoming, the initiative has faced a host of “internet trolls” who made negative comments and accusations of segregation online.
