An attempted coup in Burkina Faso was foiled by the Defense and Security Forces on the night of Saturday, January 3, 2026, according to multiple sources.

Also in response, thousands of supporters gathered late at night around 1 a.m. in Ouagadougou near the presidential palace to protect President Ibrahim Traoré and show support against alleged internal plotters and external interference.


The mobilization also showed support for Commander Oumarou Yabré, President Traoré’s trusted intelligence chief, who is credited with helping stop past alleged coup attempts, including in 2023 and April 2025.
