Pink Floyd's name was created in 1965 by frontman Syd Barrett on the spot, derived from the first names of two African American blues musicians in his record collection: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council. The band adopted the name, originally "The Pink Floyd Sound" and later shortened, to distinguish themselves from another band called The Tea Set.
