Police were responding to a report that Kohen’s mother had allegedly shoplifted diapers from Walmart.

His mother has not been charged with shoplifting.

As a Black mother, I’m tired of being told our fears aren’t real.

We teach our children how to survive police encounters, but what was Kohen supposed to do?

He was ONE.

He should be learning new words.
He should be making messes.
He should be celebrating another birthday.

Instead, his family is planning a funeral.

And people still wonder why the Black community keeps saying we don’t feel safe.

If a baby strapped into a car seat isn’t safe, then who is?
