What was announced is Project Meridian, a Pentagon initiative on the future of warfare.
Musk will co-lead it with Anduril founder Palmer Luckey and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

The group is supposed to study future battlefields and recommend weapons and technologies the military should develop.

So, in simple terms:
Musk → advising/studying future warfare
Not → becoming a military trainer or training soldiers
The focus is expected to include drones, autonomous systems, AI, hypersonics, and other emerging technology.

The Pentagon expects the project to produce recommendations in roughly 120 days.
