On a budget:

Get you an old backpack, fill it with three bottles of water, 3 cans of self opening tuna, or 6 granola bars, a lighter, bandaids, put all your important documents in a Ziploc bag, flashlight, batteries in a Ziploc bag, sharp knife or hand gun, power pack for your cell phones, walkie-talkie, Travel toiletries in a Ziploc bag, and tie your throw blanket to it.

Store in your front coat closet &---voila....you've just created your first bug out bag.
