Imagine sayin
You are inspirational
As an insult
Like
You’re usin people with disabilities
As a tool, as your motivation
For able bodied people….
I can see that’s annoyin…
Kinda hurtful
Meanin
You use us as a bandage
To cover your wounds….
Do you see we’re everyday
People?
I understand
You’re tryin to give positivity
To others you mean well
But sir ma’am
You don’t need to tell
Us we’re brave enough
To do our daily routines
You don’t need to say
We’re heroes only to exist
In this polluted air….
For me i say thank you
Cos the insult went over my head….
I thought it was compliment
I was naive
Yet I get it now
I see the point….
You are inspirational
To people with disabilities
Is unkind
Is offensive….
Cos
You’re tellin a disabled person that’s sucks to be
You and though you give me hope…
I can see why it’s botherin disabled community
A lot…
Hope I’m explainin
My understandin
Of you are inspirational….
If you meet an artist or poet
With a disability
You love their work
You can say you are inspirational
Cos that’s different
You’re talking about their masterpieces….
Not their disability…
People need to understand
You are inspirational
To people with disabilities
Even if you don’t mean no harm
It’s bother them….
Though should I be bothered?
I’m a bit skeptical…
Cos when someone says I’m inspirational
I never thought for once
It was an insult…
I never thought it’s a part of ableism
I always feel like it’s a compliment
And I don’t get the insult….

I think I wrote a poem about this topic before, it was a few years ago. And I remember at a day program
I wrote a long piece about people with disabilities being inspirational. They don’t like that very much. Especially when we’re being used as a motivation for the selfish well being. People with disabilities are just everyday normal people….just like black people are human being, too. I don’t normally write about people with disabilities that much. Cos again, ableism isn’t that sensitive subject to me….I’m more focused on racism because it’s definitely interesting. It’s more appealing to me..
