Character assassination (verbal attacks, rumors, lies, that are NOT true) is still ILLEGAL in 50. USA states, and punishable by a fine or jail time depending on what state you live in, whether you wrote your insults and lies down (social media, texting,etc), and the mood the judge is in that day (straight like that).
