High school boyfriend
What if you were
My high school boyfriend?
Would you walk me to class
Holdin my books?
Make out in the hallways?
Share lunch with me?
Study at the library together?
Holdin hands in front of our classmates?
The teachers were like, "no holdin hands
No huggin, no kisses."
Students listen students roll their eyes
I mean teenagers
Right?
When you see your sweetheart
Runnin track blowin kisses
While practicin your cheerleadin
Distractin by a boy who say
I love you for the first time
Askin you to the prom
Homecomin
Leavin handwritten love notes
On your desk
To tell you're absolutely beautiful
You blush...
I never have a high school boyfriend...
I wanted one while in school but there were
No guys who have the same feelings as me
Plus I did scared them away.... I didn't mean to....
I wanted to date, I wanted a relationship
I wanted to be in love with a guy who feels the same way...
At school...there's nothin wrong with that...
I have watched young lovers
This puppy love romance
At school, watchin butterflies flyin in their stomach
It made me sigh, made me daydream
Even in junior high I witnessed a love story
Over there at a locker a boy touched his girl's
Face the way he looked at her...then I saw another
Couple with red roses sayin they love each other....
I can imagine myself havin a high school boyfriend
A high school boyfriend like you walkin down to class
Hand in hand while we share our inside joke between us....
I would doodle your name in a heart shape on a worksheet
Manifestin that I will marry you one day...maybe years later
I got to say that my high school sweetheart is my hubby now
And we have beautiful children....
Would that be awesome? There were breaks and spaces
But we came back together cos we love each other....
I would say our romance didn't rip the pages out of
Our lives cos in our souls we belong together....
If you were my high school boyfriend
And through out my teenage years
And we became husband and wife
Buildin a family tree growin old
Tellin our grand babies we were high school sweethearts
And we still act like high school sweethearts
Within in our 60s, rememberin our first kiss
First date first time we held hands...
Everythin felt special everythin felt warm....
And it still continues....
Ya we know relationships aren't perfect
But for us, we're perfect for each other..
.
I don't mind That....
Though in high school
Love stories doesn't always happen
They don't last long
They don't happen to me
I got crushes and unrequited loves
However there are people who are lucky to
Find high school sweethearts who became the love
Of their life....even some people who married their junior high sweeties..
You don't hear those stories a lot
Though they still exist...
Real love is rare
It's a gem, a diamond
When I was in high school,
I would always hope to find a guy who really likes me
The way I like him...
He would become my high school boyfriend
Doin all the things that a couples do...
I always thought goin steady sounds so adorable
And romantic..
I love that...
I'm not a high schooler
I'm too old
But I always had the memories of
Wantin to date someone who was the same age as me
And have same feelings for each other...
I always thought that was sweet
Yet we should focus on our schoolwork and grades
Includin homework instead of love and teenage dreams...

When I was in high school, I didn’t had a boyfriend. I wanted one. I really wanted to date and be in a relationship with someone I care about. Every time I saw young couples, I sighed. I was a flirt and I was really a hopeless romantic. I always write love poems in creative writing class. I always thought love and romance is still beautiful. I had crushes. I had one of them to hold my hand. I really wanted to be a high school sweethearts with a guy who has the same butterflies as I do. I didn’t had the chance. I remember at school and I saw a couple holding hands, I was like awww. Trust me, I really do wanted that.
Now I’m in my late 30s closer to 40s, I wrote this piece only to look back in those days. I still think young love is still sweet, but in reality, it doesn’t last long all the time.
