I can’t write cos I’m in a wheelchair…

I can’t write cos I’m in a wheelchair….
Huh?
What does it have to do with anythin?
Therefore
I have a disability, so I can’t write…meanin
I can’t pick up a pen…ummm
It doesn’t make sense….
I can write I can type
What are you sayin, ma’am or sir?
Cos you’re being ableist….

I’m not acceptable?
I don’t have access?
Cos I got a wheelchair…
Only walkin people can join in,
They can be poets…

But not I,
Not the people in wheelchairs
I’m not sure how I feel about this….
You truly think walkin people are superior
I think not——

Nobody is superior,
What makes you think that?
So If you walk, you’re better than me…..

I think you have a disability
For thinkin this way….
your ignorance is a mental disorder
I believe….
Your ableism got you seein the

Wrong things….
Has your mama told you not to stare?

You think I shouldn’t be a writer
Cos I’m in a wheelchair….
I shouldn’t be a poet
Cos I can’t walk…
What kind of shit is that?

I wanna say fuck you….
Fuck you and your ableism….

I never deal with someone who says I can’t write because I’m in a wheelchair but I dealt with similar situations. It does hurt. It’s discrimination. People with disabilities can do anything to put their minds into it. They can have sex. They can have a family. They can go to school. They can do a hate crime and get away with it or go to jail. We are not stupid. I don’t usually write about ableism but I know this is something to talk about. I saw a video on Instagram of a boy who is autistic. He explained what ableism is. And I was inspired. I do have a disability. I have a motorized wheelchair. I can move around.
