A bad man! Bass Reeves (July 1838 – January 12, 191 was a formerly enslaved black man turned American law enforcement official and among the first black deputy U.S. Marshals. He was one of the marshals west of the Mississippi River. He worked mostly in Arkansas and the Oklahoma Territory.
