Malian football legend, Salif Keïta Traoré known as the ‘Black Panther’.
He was the first African footballer to receive the African Footballer of the Year award in 1970. He scored over 200 club career goals in just 400+ appearances.
At just 20-year-old, Keita left for France to join AS Saint Étienne, where he won three consecutive Ligue 1 titles, in 1968 and 1970. In his last two seasons with Sainte Étienne combined, he scored an astonishing 71 league goals – 42 alone in the 1970–71 campaign.
He died on the 23rd September 2023, aged 77.
