When Marcus Garvey was alive there was no integration, public housing or food stamps. When Marcus Garvey was alive there was no child support, SSI or AFDC. When Marcus Garvey was alive marriage was considered normal and not an anomaly. When Marcus Garvey was alive there was no such thing as a strong black woman who did not need a man. When Marcus Garvey was alive women were not incentivized to be a single mother of multiple children. When Marcus Garvey was alive our voting rights were mute. When Marcus Garvey was alive your sexuality was your personal business not to be chanted in the street. When Marcus Garvey was alive, as a kid, you could get a whipping from the neighbor down the street. When Marcus Garvey was alive if you didn't work you didn't eat.

I wonder if people don't have to do anything to survive but open their hands, will they ever use those same hands to work. Because in my time all of these things exist.
