VHF UHF communications will be cridical for close to medium range comms. some of these radios can even be unlocked to use more of the frequency spectrum than is the FCC leagally allows. Like the T-deck from earlier, these also can communicate with no infrastructure over short distances but even longer if you set up repeaters.
