TRUE STORY: My uncle, Marvin E. Jones, Sr. (In the rear) during the 60's-70's, was the highest ranking Black senior executive in the Westinghouse Defense Center. He was denied entry into an exclusive private club in DC, most of the white senior executive team joined, so he said 'Fuck You' and started his own private ALL BLACK COUNTRY CLUB called 'THE DOZENS', in racist ass Anne Arundel County, Maryland. The club membership was comprised of Black ONLY members from corporate, politics, legal, and other professional associations. The club pooled their funds, brought 5 acres, built a beautiful spacious clubhouse, an inground pool, a tennis court, and a basketball court.
In the clubhouse was a large fireplace, a smoking room w/ leather high-back chairs, pool tables, ping pong, gaming tables for poker, baccarat, cards, and 2 bars stocked with premium libations.
My uncle was an army vet, who boxed while in the army. He graduated from Morgan State. His club placed hundreds of kids into internships, and awarded academic scholarships to HBCU students. The club became so popular due to its exclusivity and reputation, eventually some of the white senior executives applied for memberships, including the President of the Defense Center at the time H.B. Smith, meanwhile, my uncle was granted a senior emeritus membership into the all white club in DC, and the head of the club membership application committee was fired and removed from the board.
My Uncle passed away in 2004, but his legacy remains. RIP to a soldier, who took no shit, and held his head high in the face of racism.
My father (front ), his brother, my uncle Morris, (in the middle), and Marvin Jones Sr., my father’s oldest brother.
