On the black poets side….
On the black poets side….
Not cos of I’m black
Cos I can relate to them
Cos I love their rhythms and flow…
The way they handle their own words….
Cos we do have different kinds of experiences
On racism and colorism, the whole oppression
We love to spit the truth from our mouths
Deep souls from our pens…
And some of us don’t apologize….
We’re unapologetically poetically black
I know some black poetry has been banned from the public eye
Cos we be talkin about white supremacy….
The audience, the readers who has the audacity to coddle their
Own ignorance In our faces…
Just cos we talk about a white man who did terrible things
To this planet….then they always got the nerve to gaslight us
Even our own people…it’s a shame….
I’m a black poetess in a motorized wheelchair
Who inks pages about black power and how I keep repeatin
Myself as a cliche…by sayin white supremacy speaks violence…
It really does…I don’t think, I don’t feel like this type of
Message doesn’t click with too many brains…. I guess what I said
Scares them cos this is the reality that black people has to face
Everyday…black poets give the people hardest pill to swallow and
It’s the right thing to do…we don’t care about feelings when it comes to
The heaviest topics….
I know i don’t have to write poetry about racism, blackness or anythin
It’s just cos I want to…I feel like it’s my duty to help black people…
I want to achieve my poems as a healin process for them….
Tellin them white supremacy is bad, and they should fill with anger….
Black poets like Langston Hughes, Nikki Giovanni
Maya Angelou all the greats…
I might be one of the greats, too….
Cos on the black poets side,
We’re so strong, bold
We can make it more stronger
If we’re so above the cancel culture….
Meanin the system can’t shut our voices
Cos poems are exchangin between people
Here and there…
I would like to know
Will they ban more black poetry just cos it brings up
Race? Yes it’s possible….
Nobody wants us to know anythin black, anythin melanin…
What if a young black poet who goes to library lookin for
Black poets that looks exactly like him or her?
Are they goin to white out many black poems?
Cos it’s not fair…it’s not the way the world works
Right?
If I publish a black poetry book,
I might get banned…
I might not have it in the bookstore…,
And might get told that black people don’t read….
Which is a myth…
If I become a best seller for black power like Malcolm X
Got everybody wakin up comin together fightin against the
System, guess what
I won’t be breathin anymore…
I’m on the black poets side for speakin the truth
I’m on the black poets side for givin my people a voice….
I’m not here for feelings, not here for gaslit bull shit…
I love black people I love myself…
So I don’t mind writin to them…
I am a black woman who doesn’t have time
To be put in my place….
Let me write my blackness…
Let me write it down on paper
Don’t edit
Just cos everyone Is uncomfortable…
Don’t erase my black girl magic
Don’t white my melanin poppin….
I’m on the black poets side
Who does exist and we’re everywhere….
