Like why? Why is it necessary?

Besides we don’t sing that song in
BET awards, not in Beyoncé concerts
Nor soul train….we barely don’t know
The words…is it cos of February
And it’s black history month?

You wanna represent us…like another victory?

So I don’t understand….
I really don’t….
We’re singin we shall overcome….
I don’t hear that in Black Lives Matter March….

Maybe the only time we sing is
When we forgive white folks who put pain
On us….or we sing it at nowhere….not even on
Juneteenth…it’s a racist punchline to shush us….

The funny thing is we knew the national anthem
By heart instead of our own…that’s the funniest thing ever…
I noticed…the lack of us be lovin America but not ourselves….

I forgot who wrote this, this black poet
Who wrote anthem just for us…yes he’s turnin
In his grave right now…this is another proof that
We’re actually sick in our heads….

I’m not watchin this fuckin anthem on Super Bowl…,
For lots of reasons…. I can’t….the fact is black representation
Will not go so well at all….

Let me get this straight
Consider every year or so
Super Bowl Sunday or Juneteenth or Kwanzaa
Certain things would be like our so called victories
And other bull shit…..
To get us thinkin the huge African American festivals are our
Check in our hands…
That’s not money…..
Is that goin to be our routine from now on?
Cos
I ain’t fallin for it…

The system is doin this..
Gettin us to sing
We shall overcome
And it’s another distraction…
On purpose..

They hear us but ignore us…
