In a distressing incident, a subway performer, Lain S. Forrest, was attacked at the 34th Street Herald Square station on February 13th at approximately 5:50 pm. According to Forrest, a woman wearing a mustard jacket, red scarf, and gloves assaulted him by hitting the back of his head with a metal water bottle. The assailant then fled the scene, discarding her outer clothing, and escaped into the nearby Macy’s department store. Despite efforts by the NYPD, the perpetrator remains at large.

Forrest, a talented electric cellist and singer-songwriter, as well as an MD-PhD student in genetics/precision medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, has taken to social media to seek the public’s help in identifying the assailant. He shared a post and video of the incident, urging anyone with information to contact NYC Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.

This is not the first time Forrest has faced violence while performing in the subway. He revealed that this is the second attack he has endured in less than a year, leading him to make the difficult decision to suspend his subway performances indefinitely for his safety.

The rise in violence within the MTA subway system has become a growing concern for performers, commuters, and city officials alike. The community is urged to come together to help ensure the safety of all individuals using public transportation and to assist in bringing those responsible for such acts to justice.
