On December 23, 2023, 45-year-old Amanda Richmond Rogers jumped into a frigid river in Alaska to try to save her dog, Groot, who had fallen in.

Unfortunately, she never resurfaced from the water, and rescuers were unable to locate her.

In late March 2024, four months after she vanished, her body was finally discovered, still holding the dog she attempted to rescue.
