This is where I get confused. If this is step one in removing tents and pallet shanties from the streets, I will go quietly, but The City can’t remove the unhoused’s tents, their piles of garbage, the ubiquitous bicycle frames, propane tanks and the extension cords illegally tapped into the street light, because a judge has ruled there must be a place for them to go before you ask them to leave. I get it. They can’t force them and they don’t bother to fine them. You can’t threaten someone with fines or jail if they have no money and nothing to lose.

Cam said it best when he said, ”You can do anything you want on your last day of work.” The power imbalance tilts to the worker that one day. So the boss brings in donuts and has a little going away party so you don’t steal laptops or have a bowel movement outside of the restroom.

So what’s a fine to someone so destitute they walk the city streets gathering bottles to piss in and sleep on a pile of rags? If the business owner doesn’t keep the public right of way clean the fines come. We have something they can take so The City pimps out the business owner to do their dirty work. At least that’s how it looks from where I’m standing.
