When I hear melanated ppl say "we aren't our ancestors" I totally agree. Our ancestors knew what working together ment. They pooled their cents together and funded the UNIA. Their cents pooled together bought buildings that housed equipment that printed newspapers, made melanated baby dolls. Their cents pooled together bought ships. Baba Garvey (PABBUH) wasn't a low key billionaire, a trust fund baby. The people moved as one.
Now here we are, in a time most pay for entertainment. Netflix, Hulu, etc all subscriptions. But with this space here we have to beg our ppl for a donation. $5 or $10 a month for melanated social media, our collective doesn't see the benefit in it. Maintaining this isn't cheap but we have some real ones in our corner that been the only reason the lights are still on. Yes, WE ARE NOT OUR ANCESTORS.
