What is actually happening is that non-black people are realizing just how much white supremacists they actually are. Black people going all the way back to the days of Frederick Douglass have known that non-black people are very much here for white supremacist ideology as a means of getting closer to white people in hopes of getting a taste of that white privilege. So a white passing mexican doing this is as surprising as the sun being hot. So yea, the word is only growing stronger in meaning because white supremacists are all over the place especially now, emboldened by when Trump was President..
