I think a few years ago
Or so,
I have learned
That mental health
Isn’t being talked about
In the black community…
I wondered why….
I have heard black people
Don’t go to therapy
It’s for white people…
Some say
We can pray all the truama
Away.. I think it’s sad
And heartbreakin
As a melaninated people
Who has mentality
Where
We don’t need therapy
Sessions or the fact
We talk to psychologists
There’s always goin to be
A racist tension or not…
I don’t like to say things
That triggered black people
But we’re a broken and lost people
Even if we break the cycle from
Generational curses,
We still broke as a race
Cos
We still have a lot of conditions
That are being passed down to
Generations from slavery and colonization….
Black people
It’s okay to talk about
Our mental health
We shouldn’t be ashamed of
Our hurt that keeps repeatin it over and
Over…it’s okay to go and see
A therapist, a black one
A black one can relate to you….
It’s okay to cry, to laugh
Black people
We’re humans….
Stop dehumanizin
Yourselves
Cos of white supremacy
Cos of other black people hate our guts
Cos of the environment
It’s okay to heal
It’s okay to love….
Black people
Y’all are the most gorgeous
The most sweetest hearts on the planet
And I know we can create
Ways to have our own therapeutic classes
Where we can express ourselves
Just for us….
We’re originators
We’re innovators
Correct?
I believe
We can come together
And discuss
Mental health
We can question
Why do we have Stockholm syndromes?
Why are we mean to each other?
Why is there self hatred?
Where are all of these kinds of conditions came from?
We can do some activities to cope and deal with our issues?
Bring your kids and your elders
They need to come and join, too…
That could be our constructive thing to do
For us, just for us….
We carry damages through our genes
For centuries…..
Black nation all over the world
Has to heal its broken soul
And be farther away from the longtime abuse….
That is white supremacy….
Melaninated people
Needs to talk about
Mental health in our community
It’s goin to be tough
And uncomfortable
However
Have you ever wondered
Why do we behave a certain way?
Why do we have so much anger?
Why do we kill each other, talk down on each other?
All those things that keep givin us pain…
I think there’s a reason for this
Why we don’t talk about
Mental Health in the black community..
I could be wrong…
It does have to do with slave owners
Who told us that we’re alright
And there’s nothin wrong with us
And hush us too with their words and actions….
Cos remember
Our ancestors were slaves
They developed horrible syndromes
That wasn’t belong to us in the first place….
It’s been passed down to generations after generations
Like ptsd….
At the time slaves didn’t have therapies….
All we know is European and Arab habits….
We need to talk about mental health
In our community
We do have issues
We want to heal
But we have to listen to each other
Without arguin
Without punchin somebody in the face….
We can talk or we can write….
Either way
We need to heal
We gotta make sure that we wanna heal….
