Reminder to people upon gaining power it took Hitler only 57 days to dismantle German democracy and declare himself dictator and start purging the "undesirables."
Adolf Hitler took about two months to effectively dismantle German democracy after becoming Chancellor on January 30, 1933. However, the process continued throughout that year.
Key Steps in Dismantling Democracy:
1. January 30, 1933 – Hitler is appointed Chancellor. (Already done in the OSA)
2. February 27, 1933 – Reichstag Fire occurs; Nazis blame communists. (Hasn't happens... yet?)
3. February 28, 1933 – Reichstag Fire Decree is issued, suspending civil liberties freedom of speech, press, and assembly etc. (It has begun in the OSA)
4. March 5, 1933 – Last free elections under the Weimar Republic are held, with Nazis increasing their vote share but not securing a majority. (Already done in the OSA).
5. March 23, 1933 – Enabling Act is passed, giving Hitler dictatorial powers and allowing him to rule by decree, effectively ending democracy. (Bill aleady proposed in the OSA).
By March 1933, Hitler had legally destroyed the Weimar Republic’s democratic system. Over the next few months, he consolidated power further by banning political parties, suppressing opposition, and aligning institutions with Nazi ideology.
