The situation intensified with reports of ten arrests following a scuffle with the NYPD, and rumors circulated of a Bochur attempting to pepper spray an officer. NYPD officers continued to make arrests, pulling individuals from the tunnel.

Rabbi Yosef Braun, a member of the Crown Heights Beis Din, condemned the actions of those responsible for the tunneling. He emphasized that the group had not been authorized by anyone to take control of the holy shul of 770, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the unauthorized nature of the tunneling activities.

Developing story: Underground tunnels have been uncovered beneath a Synagogue in New York City. Video footage captures clashes between bochurim and police, as the bochurim tore down wooden panels to prevent a cement truck from sealing off the recently discovered tunnels.

Around the same time, construction work was underway placing new plumbing near 770. As the work neared completion, a trench was dug to lay a waterline and the surprised workers were shocked to find what appeared to be a tunnel underground, according to a source familiar with the incident.

Putting the pieces together, one of the workers in 770 investigated and got the shock of his life when he discovered the tunnel.
