Disability pride month

I didn’t know
This July a disability pride month
I didn’t know that
I wasn’t aware…
Til instagram…

I mean disability act movement
Act started in 1990
And it’s so happened upon this month
July….
I was little when it happened…
I wasn’t aware….maybe someone told me
About it…I don’t remember….

Honestly disability act movement
Still didn’t remove ableism….
But you can sue someone…

And don’t forget black people with disabilities
We have to deal with a lot of bull shit….
I hate to tell you this, not all black people are
Ableist….but a lot of black communities
Who are ableist…some are ashamed
Some forget them and think they’re not part of
Them….also some think mental problems are
For white people…that’s mythical….
Mental illnesses doesn’t discriminate…..

Black people with disabilities were in chains, too…
I’m sure they were pickin cottons becomin house negroes
To entertain their massas…and also many of them have
Kept in the dark…those days Disability was frowned upon…..

We have to deal with police officers, we have to deal with
The doctors, dealin with education system…yes you know
White supremacy…we deal with that too….

Includin sexism while we accomplish so many beautiful things
In the world…we do everythin too…but why separate us away from
Our own race? We do belong to disability community but they’re racist
As hell…we belong to melaninated race cos they’re all we have….

Let me tell you this black people need to stop being so ignorant
To each other….stop hatin yourselves….if you wanna celebrate
Disability pride month, Don’t forget black people with disabilities…
We’re your people too…

Again I didn’t know it’s disability pride month….
I don’t tend to celebrate it, but I will thank activists
Who fight for our human rights… I will thank the black activists
With disabilities who I never heard of before yet I will hear about
Them soon…hmm I wonder why they never mentioned their names
Cos maybe there’s white supremacy in disability community
Might erase the names..it’s possible

The backstory of this poem is that I was not aware of July is a Disability Pride Month. I googled it. And I want everyone to know that black people with disabilities should not be forgotten. They have a voice, too. They experience racism as well….black community, don’t push us away, we’re all we got. Don’t say mental disorders are for white people. We have mental disorders too. What are y’all talking about? I told
Y’all we’re sick….sLave mentalities are a lifetime illness we don’t know how to get rid of.
