I see someone
Who's readin half of my poems
About racism, and they give it back to me
Didn't read the whole thing
Didn't take the time
Cos what I wrote is
The truth....
Sayin I can't read It
I can't deal
I can see someone
Gaslightin me about what I wrote
From my soul
They might call my compassionate
A little too aggressive
A little too angry
I mean I know facts can be uncomfortable
But I write is the reality check...
Someone might say
This isn't unlike me
Speakin such language
Like those words don't belong to me
Cos to some people
I should be writin about
Somethin else like disability
And not my blackness...
Like I should be writin about
Love and romance
And forget racism
Cos again to some people
I don't have experiences, right?
Like leave it to black people correct?
I should be writin happy things
Who the fuck cares?
Why should I care about what others think
And do?
It's my human right to write poems
About the harsh realities of black people
Cos I truly care and I respect us a whole lot...
Even though we are a sick black race,
I still love us...
And I'm doin my best to heal with my own heart of words
Cos
They need a message to remember
A message of encouragement
Somethin to think about....
I thought that's another way to help
Black people....they do enjoy readin
They enjoy readin poetry
I don't get paid for this
I do it out of my way
To talk about racism to black people
In my metaphors....
I want my people to understand
We're tired of our people dyin in the bloody hands of
White supremacy....
It's why I write....
I may not be the prophet
I'm a black poetess sitting on the daybed
Writin whatever it flows out of my insides
And what I'm writin is that black people
Need to wake up
WAKE UP!!!
