A home
Is where our souls are,
Does it sound like cliche?
Maybe, maybe not…
A home is where our
People used to live
Before colonized,
Before the invaders came and snatched
Our culture from our hands….
Now we don’t know the definition
Of home…
What is a home?
What is a home to us?
We’ve been robbed
We’ve been cheated
We’ve been fooled…
How dare the people from another world
Who forced us to change our names
Our belief systems….
It’s not fair…
Do you think it’s fair?
Our language has been whitewashed
Our food is their food, now….

Now our people are fightin
Each other
In the favors and graces of
Oppression to grow stronger
Like bones….

This is not a home,
This is somebody’s home
Such as a cave, I mean
Think about Fred flintstone
The whole uncomfortable system is
Givin me that vibe….

Not a Home,
I wanna go back to where it used to be
Before Imperialism came around
There was us
Us with nature
And peace
And love…

Who told the natural minority to
Come and steal our shit?
Sayin
This is not our home anymore….

Home is where our souls are…
Where our souls are connected to…

Unfortunately nobody understands that
Only a few….
Our ancestors tried to speak with their heartbeats
Into our brains, tryin to waken an inner voice
In us….
Like a dream, a thought..
A gut feelin..
Tellin us a village of family trees where our souls
Are bindin to….
We may not know where we belong,
We sense a home…
Somewhere….

There was a poetess on Instagram by the name of Ariana Brown, she was in button poetry . Are y’all familiar with her and button poetry. I followed her on Instagram. She created a prompt for writers to write about home. And this is what I come up with. She doesn’t know that I did this writing assignment yet. lol. She is also a creative writing teacher.
