Giovanni Hidalgo, a Puerto Rican congero. He was once considered one of the best percussionist in the genres of Latin jazz, Afro cuban, and classic jazz. Tragically, advanced diabetes, coupled with his playing style, have caused him to experience partial/total amputation of 7 fingers. While true, Hidalgo is widely considered a great congero, he was influenced, mentored, and trained by some of the greatest Black percussionist in Afro Cuban, Latin Jazz history:
