This is why you don't keep quiet

On 21 March 1981...

The KKK was so infuriated that a local Black man had been acquitted of killing a white police officer, they maimed and lynched the first Black person they saw.

That person was Michael Donald, who was 19. Michael was merely walking home from the store picking up some items for his older sister. All of a sudden, men of the KKK asked Michael for directions, forced him in the car at gun point, severely beat him, slit his throat 3 times, and hung him on a tree on Herndon Avenue in Mobile, Alabama

Unfortunately for the Klan, Michael was the youngest son of BEULAH MAE DONALD, and she was the wrong Mother to mess with!

She decided to hold the KKK accountable for their hatred. She enlisted the aid of the FBI, and took the killers to trial. Beulah refused an out of court settlement for $1 million and pushed for a full trial.

She opposed the death penalty and told a Klansman: "I do forgive you. From the day I found out who you all was, I asked God to take care of y'all, and he has." Two years later the two men who killed her son were convicted, and later executed.

But Beulah wasn't done.

A lawyer working for the Southern Poverty Law Center, Morris Dees, suggested suing the KKK for wrongful death.

Specifically, Unit 900 of the KKK, which was considered "one of the largest and most violent of the groups". Beulah agreed.

On February 12, 1987, after six years, a $7 million judgment was passed in her favor by an all-white jury. Unit 900 was forced to file for bankruptcy.

The KKK couldn't afford to pay her so she took everything the organization owned. In 1987, Ms. Magazine named her "Woman of the Year".

The SS Is Active Our client has been disappeared': Lawyer seeks answers on Venezuelan imprisoned with no due process..

Lindsay Toczylowski, president of the Immigrant Defenders Law Center, shares a photo of her client publicly for the first time and talks with Rachel Maddow about the difficulty of getting answers about her client who the Trump administration, through ICE, has accused without evidence of being a gang member and summarily deported to a prison in El Salvador with no due process or opportunity to defend himself.
