Honestly
I don’t wanna feel guilty
About writin black poetry….
Cos black poetry is the real truth….
You can’t just make me feel bad
About it…..
I write black poems cos I feel inspired
I write black poems cos I watch black power
On YouTube and other social platforms…
I write black poems cos I read black history books
I write black poems cos I love my people…
Don’t try to guilt me for writin my blackness on paper….
I’m not usin my race….
I’m humanizin my race…..
I don’t give a shit if I get banned
I don’t care if someone hushed me
Truth will stay out…
So what
I got white friends
So what
I’m surroundin by white folks
Do you have to bring up the past of
Internalized anti blackness?
Like I want to be white?
Like I like white boys?
That’s the time I had no idea
About white supremacy….
I thought white supremacy is just the kkk
But it’s a system all over the world….
I decided to educate myself
Black history interests me
That’s how I started to ink black poems more often
And I don’t wanna feel guilty about it….
I don’t wanna be told not to post my black poems down….
I know people get uncomfortable
They ruined friendships….
I didn’t stop….
Some readers stay readin
Black people poetically
Many back away
Cos they scared of the truth….
I know where I sit
I know where my voice leads
I never need to be famous for
Being a great black poetess
I need eyes and ears with an open mind and soul
To feel, to heal a certain trauma….
To trigger to laugh to agree
And disagree….
I don’t wanna feel guilty for
Helpin people who look like me….
There’s always a problem
When you stand up for your black people
Always a problem cos
Some part of the belief
Is that black people are not humans….
We’re humans…..
Not the three fifths….
It’s a white supremacy idea to convince
The world we’re caged animals…
I’m writin another black poem to erase that completely…
And i can’t be guilt trippin for that….
Why would I want to feel that way?
I don’t wanna feel guilty
I don’t wanna stop writin and postin
I may not be a legend but I reach people
Far ahead…..
That’s enough….
That’s ok
Plus if I ever get too famous
For black poetry
I might be banned
From school library
Or other bookshops
Even on Amazon
Even publishing companies might cancel my
Scripts….
Cos you never know…..
I never know
Yet it never stops my pen
My on screen typewriter….
I do reach a few people on the down low….
Don’t make me feel guilty
Don’t make me feel bad
Cos I defend my people in my poetic lines….
